Malin Maria Åkerman (; May 12, 1978) is a Swedish–Canadian actress and model. She was born in Stockholm, Sweden and moved to Canada at the age of two. As a child, she appeared in several television commercials before going on to win a modelling contract at age sixteen. Åkerman's acting career began with her debut on the Canadian television series Earth: Final Conflict in 1997, after which she made appearances on several other Canadian productions.
Akerman achieved her first major acting coup when she signed on as one of the leads in the Farrelly Brothers' remake The_Heartbreak_Kid (2007), a comedy about a dissatisfied fortysomething newlywed named Eddie (Ben_Stiller) who jilts his wife, Lila, only a few days into his honeymoon and instead snags a feisty and independent young free spirit named Miranda. In what seemed to those familiar with the 1971 film like a surprising casting choice, the Farrellys selected the alluring blonde Akerman to play not Miranda (as might be expected) but Lila -- a character no longer dowdy (or Jewish) in their hands. That same year, Akerman also essayed a part in the gag-laden comedy The_Brothers_Solomon, about a couple of socially impaired losers (Will_Arnett, Will_Forte) desperate to find a woman to have their baby.
When "Comeback" failed to find an audience and was cancelled after only 13 episodes, Akerman made a pair of guest appearances on the show's former lead-in, "Entourage" (HBO, 2004-) and rebounded with a high profile role opposite Ben Stiller in the Farrelly Brothers comedy, "The Heartbreak Kid" (2007). Critics slammed the remake of the 1972 Neil Simon classic, but Akerman's performance as a whirlwind bride who turns out to be an abysmal match for the straight-laced Stiller led to another blockbuster comedy, "27 Dresses" (2008), where she played the sister of an "always" bridesmaid (Katherine Heigl) who is set to wed her sister's secret crush - her boss.
